Explanation of the title of the blog
As some of you know, I took a motorcycle trip with a few friends last summer. This summer I also had the same idea. We had decided to recreate our expedition, and although I didn't post too many pictures last year we had called our trip Wild Hogs. Last year, I could fool myself into believing that I was John Travolta or maybe even Tim Allen; however after reflecting on this years fun and games, I can only conclude that I am William Macy.
After replacing my two tires on the trip, flopping my bike down at a rest stop, and having an unscheduled yard sale on the hwy just south of Quesnel (after I was almost home, I might add) I had to face the music of which character I most likely resembled. If you have not seen the movie, great, sit back in your seat and enjoy the story of my summer motorcycle trip. For my loved ones, feel gratitude, and know that I am home safe and sound and back to the daily grind of keeping up with my four boys, and answering the 10,000 questions from the new 4 year old in my life.
Empathy of a 7-11 wiener: Driving in Kelowna
Some days I need to work hard at developing empathy and other days it seems to flow naturally. This is how I felt while driving a motorcycling in Kelowna. Don't get me wrong, I understand why people flock to this region when the sun is shinning, with their fancy speed boats and their water toys. Thing is, if you want to drive a motorcycle responsibly, or you have seen what road rash looks like after a crash, you appreciate protective gear. The challenge is that my Kevlar pants and armoured jacket is the colour black, and when I pulled into this recreation Mecca, apparently a million other people had the same idea. There I was stuck in more stop than go traffic, and the only way to spread the liquid emanating out of every pore was to shift back and forth on my ... yes you guessed it black seat. That is also why there is no picture of me in this state, because there was no time. On a motorcycle you are scanning for shade, or scouring the maps to see if there is an alternative route that avoids city driving.
